Abstract

923,864. Anchors. MINISTER OF AVIATION. May 11, 1961 [May 12, 1960], No. 16788/60. Class 45. [Also in Group XXXIII] A ground anchor comprises a piston rod 25 carrying a collar 29 within a slotted cone 30 on a housing 26 slidable on a cylinder 19, eight pawls 31 being mounted in the slots and engaged in a groove in collar 29. the cylinder 19 is connected by a universal joint 22 to an aircraft 15. Pressure fluid admitted by valve 24 lowers piston 20 against a constant pressure below the piston, to rotate pawls 31 until collar 29 engages cone 30, the casing 26 then being moved with the piston and the cone passes between adjacent rails 36, 37 of a platform; retraction of the piston rotates pawls 31 until shoulder 28 engages casing 26 which is then moved with the piston until the pawls engage rails 36, 37 whereby the aircraft is locked to the platform, Fig. 5. A ball in the point of cone 30 guides the cone between the rails and a friction clamp 21 ensures that the piston moves to its full extent before casing 26 moves.
