Abstract

923,276. Transformers. FERRANTI Ltd. Jan. 31, 1961 [Feb. 9, 1960], No. 4466/60. Class 38 (2). A single or multi-phase transformer in which the core can be readily dismantled and assembled has its laminations carried by a frame of non-magnetic material (e.g. stainless steel) assembled from legs 11 (Figs. 1, 2) and yoke 12 pieces with interlocking parts 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP>. To assemble the transformer the leg laminations 13 are permanently secured to frame legs 11 and threaded through windings (not shown). Frame yoke pieces 12 are interlocked in position and the detachable upper and lower yoke laminations 14 are then secured to both sides of pieces 12, interleaving with the leg laminations 13, and with each other. The lower yoke and lamination members may not be detachable. Alternatively, the frame member may have laminations secured to one side only (Fig. 3, not shown), or the laminations may be sandwiched between two frame members (Fig. 4, not shown), or the transformer may have two outer and one centre frame (Fig. 5, not shown).
