Abstract

922,240. Hospital beds. HOSKINS & SEWELL Ltd. Aug. 17, 1961 [Aug. 31, 1960], No. 29974/60. Class 52 (2). A bedstead comprises a base frame 3, a mattress frame 8, and two pairs of screw-jacks 7 pivotally interconnecting the frames 3, 8 whereby the height and angular setting of the mattress frame relative to the base frame can be adjusted. Each side member of the base frame 3 has two depending arms 5 between the lower ends of which a pair of cross members 6 extend. The cross members 6 are angularly movable about their axes and have secured near their opposite ends a pair of screw-jacks 7. The complementary parts of the jacks are pivotally connected to the mattress frame 8. The actuating mechanisms of each pair of jacks are interconnected by a rod 9 so as to be operable by a common handle attached to a part 10 of the rod. When the frames 3, 8 are parallel the four jacks will be substantially parallel. A pair of links 11 are provided to prevent the mattress frame 8 from collapsing on to the base frame 3.
