Abstract

920,319. Spinning yarns. MONSANTO CHEMICAL CO. Aug. 23, 1961 [Sept. 6, 1960], No. 30416/61. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). [Also in Group XXV] In a method of making bulked, compound yarn, a first yarn 22 is advanced through the internal longitudinal bore 17 of a member 14 rotating within a stuffing or crimping chamber 21 so that the yarn is irregularly crimped and twisted, and simultaneously a second yarn 29 is passed through an opening 28 in the chamber and along a helical groove 27 on the exterior of a tapered portion of the member 14 to impart the same twist to the second yarn and encompass the first twisted yarn therewith. The yarns are softened and the crimp set therein by a hot fluid, e.g. steam, applied through a pipe 31. The cored yarn product is withdrawn from a flared opening leading from a constricted portion of the chamber.
