Abstract

733,707. Crimping yarns; twist tubes. MOULINAGE ET RETORDERIE DE CHAVANOZ. Jan. 15, 1953 [Jan. 23, 1952], No. 1277/53. Classes 120(2) and 120(3). A yarn composed of thermoplastic filaments is crinkled by passage through a setting zone over a guide or guides dividing the zone into an entering region, in which the filaments are subjected to a setting agent while free of twist, and a leaving region, from which the filaments pass through a false-twisting apparatus within a twisting zone and are twisted while unconfined between the zones to cause the twist to feed backwardly into the leaving region where it is set : the twist is removed as the filaments leave the twisting zone. As shown, a yarn 1 composed of nylon filaments is fed from a spool 2 over a guide roller 3 into a tank 4 of boiling water, over guides 5 and 6 and through a twist tube 7 and eyelet 8 thereof : the false twist imparted to the leading part of the yarn is continuously transferred to the advancing yarn on the other side of the tube 7 so that crinkled yarn collected on a spool 9 is in untwisted form.
