Abstract

Two multifilament synthetic strands are advanced along separate paths and heated e.g. by a double face and false twisted e.g. by passage through pairs of twist bushes to impart a crimp. The two crimped strands are then combined into a yarn by e.g. passage a lapper or passage around feed and separator rolls, and the yarn is subjected to a secondary heating by e.g. passage around a multi-pass heater to modify the crimp level. The combined denier of the strands is equal to the total denier of the finished yarn or pref. the strands contain equal numbers of filaments and are of the same denier. The strands may be drawn on the same drawing device before the first heating and the strands may be fed from separate supply packages or from a melt spinning device. A lar ge denier (150 den.) yarn is formed more quickly by carrying out some processing steps on smaller denier (75 den.) components before combining the components.
