Abstract

2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde is prepared by mixing resorcinol with dimethylformamide, adding phosphorous oxychloride, allowing to stand and decomposing with sodium acetate.ALSO:A pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of tuberculosis consists of 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (a) in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable solid carrier e.g. as a tablet; (b) in the form of a sterile isotonic aqueous solution for injection; or (c) in the form of an aqueous composition suitable for inhalation as an aerosol. These compositions may be stabilized by means of sodium bisulphite.
