Abstract

The invention comprises: (a) hydroquinones of the general formula <FORM:0927531/IV(a)/1> (b) benzoquinones of the general formula <FORM:0927531/IV(a)/2> (n representing an integer from 1 to 6 in both formulae); (c) the preparation of the hydroquinones by condensing 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methylhydroquinone with an alcohol of the general formula <FORM:0927531/IV(a)/3> or <FORM:0927531/IV(a)/4> in the presence of an acidic condensing agent; and (d) the preparation of the benzoquinones by treating the hydroquinones with a mild oxidizing agent. The benzoquinones possess Coenzyme Q activity.
