Abstract
918,544. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. Aug. 8, 1960 [Aug. 8, 1959], No. 27384/60. Class 35. An alternating current output is obtained at electrodes El, E2, E3 in a magnetohydrodynamic generator by passing ionized gas along duct K in the presence of a rotating radial magnetic field produced by poles P1, P2, P3. As shown, a 3-phase output is obtained when the electrodes are delta-connected and the poles excited from a 3-phase source Q; for polyphase operation the numbers of poles and electrodes are increased accordingly. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the inner faces of the electrodes and poles may be curved and lie on orthogonallyintersecting circles and leakage field suppressed by the use of short-circuited windings.
