Abstract

917,269. Pouring spouts; stoppers. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. July 24, 1961 [Nov. 14, 1960], No. 39076/60. Classes 66 and 125(3). A pouring spout 1 of plastics material, to fit sealingly e.g. a can and having a pouring lip 3, is closed by a diaphragm 8 integral therewith and having a thin outer rim 9 and, on its side facing the inlet of the spout, an integral rod-like projection 10 which, on pressure being applied to the opposite side of the diaphragm, and after partial rupture thereof, engages with the inner wall of the spout to ensure complete separation of the diaphragm and spout. The projection may be alternatively annular or formed by an annular recess closed at its end nearer the spout inlet. The outlet end of the spout may be closed by a plug (not shown) having a rib to engage the groove 7 and which may be separate from or joined to the spout.
