Abstract

1444028 Bushes for container openings AMERICAN FLANGE & MFG CO Inc 23 Oct 1973 [6 Nov 1972] 49328/73 Heading B8T A container closure assembly comprises a hollow bushing 10 of plastics material having an internal pipe thread 19 of a pitch diameter A, and a container wall 1 having a circular opening 2 with an internal diameter less than the external diameter of the bushing 10, the construction being such that during insertion of the bushing 10 within the container wall its internal pipe thread assumes a pitch diameter B which is substantially less than the pitch diameter A as a result of the deformation of the flexible bushing 10 due to a narrower opening 2 and after the completion of the insertion the internal thread assumes a diameter C which is greater than diameter B but smaller than the diameter A whereby a closure member is threadedly engaged within the bushing 10. The bushing 10 comprises an annular shoulder 15 and a hexagonal flange 12 for engaging respectively in the opening 4 and seatably engaging with a complimentary configuration as defined by an annular seat 5 and a hexagonal wall 6 of the container. The lower end of the bushing 10 is sealed off by an integral and removable diaphragm 13 having score line 14. The bushing 10 may be threadedly engaged with a dispensing tap (20), Fig. 4 (not shown), which causes the diaphragm 13 to separate along the score line 14. In another embodiment the closure assembly is of a configuration, which is the reverse of the first embodiment and allowing a cap plug (50) to threadedly engage the bushing (40), Fig. 5 (not shown). In yet another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), is provided with annular projection (63) to abut against annular seat (5) of the container. Again flange (72), Fig. 7 (not shown), comprises an annular recess (73) which sealingly engages a gasket means (74) on the annular seat (5) of the container.
