Abstract

916,821. Reactors. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Jan. 27, 1960 [Feb. 9, 1959], No. 4526/59. Class 39 (4). End structures are secured to the main moderator container of a reactor by ties extending through the container and forming fuelcontaining coolant tubes. Fig. 2 shows the end plate 10b of the moderator tank of a D 2 O moderated reactor and an end structure 11. A hole in the end plate is filled by a collar 16 with internal screw threads, to which is welded a coolant tube 13. A sleeve 28 is screwed into the collar and nuts 30, 33 are screwed on to the sleeve to clamp it to a flange 27 in a hole in the end structure. A seal 42 is provided. The coolant tube is double-walled with a heat insulating gas between the walls; the coolant may be steam under pressure. Coolant passages 48 and moderator inlets 47 are provided.
