Abstract

916,494. Centrifugal casting machines. BIBBY, E. R. Jan. 11, 1961 [Feb. 8, 1960], No. 1119/61. Class 83 (1). Tubular shapes such as soil and water pipes are centrifugally cast in a mould lined with a moulding composition comprising a binder set by a gas. Moulding composition, such as silica sand with a sodium silicate binder is dumped in the mould 14 from a trough 26 filled from a hopper 78 as it is projected into the mould. The trough assembly comprises a spreader 28 and a perforated gas supply tube 52. After dumping by inversion of the trough, Fig. 6, by means of a handle 74, the assembly is moved laterally by pistons 68, 70 and the mould rotated so that the mixture is spread evenly, Fig. 8, and then set by supply of CO 2 gas through the tube 52. The trough assembly with end bearings 40, 56 is then removed, end caps 84, Fig. 9, fitted and metal poured from a horn 86.
