Abstract

916,288. Chains and chain-couplings. KETTENWERKE SCHLIEPER G.m.b.H. Jan. 9, 1961 [Sept. 19, 1960], No. 861/61. Class 24. An oval link chain whose links are of resinous or like synthetic material reinforced by glass or other mineral fibres has each of its links stiffened by the provision of a lining of the synthetic material applied to the inside surface of the arcuate ends of the links. Such linings may be stuck on to a preformed conventional link or made integral with the link. In either case the lining 3 fills in what would normally be the curved interior of the link (as provided by a broken line in Fig. 1) up to.at least the region 5 where this curved boundary merges with the straight sides 1b of the link 1. Preferably, as shown, the lining 3 extends beyond the region 5 to merge in arcuate form with the straight sides 1b to form a curved engagement surface with the corresponding part 4 of the adjacent link 2. Where an end or other link of the chain is required to be engaged with a rope or the like, the lining extends substantially beyond the region 5, also projects laterally on both sides of the median plane of the link, and incorporates a rope-fitting surface such as an arcuate groove 8 (Fig. 3), which may either break into a hole 7 extending through the lining as shown or, as in Fig. 6 (not shown), be cut into the free end surface of the lining.
