Abstract

1386136 Metal reinforced concrete BATTELLE DEVELOPMENT CORP 2 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971] 50573/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] A composite reinforced concrete element 10 having a pair of opposite surfaces 11, 12 whose dimensions are larger than their average separation comprises hydraulic cement or concrete 13 with a layer of wire mesh 16 therein adjacent and parallel to at least one of the surfaces 11, 12, wherein wire fibres 15 of low carbon steel are uniformly distributed in the element with an average spacing between the fibres of up to 0À3 inch. The fibres are gunned into a wet mix of sprayed concrete so as to orient them predominately parallel to the wire mesh. Additional fibres may be incorporated in regions of the element liable to be subjected to higher tensile stress. Chopped asbestos fibres may be incorporated in the concrete mix.
