Abstract

916,120. Columns; beam joints. HALLE, R. J. Sept. 3, 1959 [Sept. 30, 1958], No. 30079/59. Classes 20 (1) and 20 (4). Hangers 33, 47 are clipped on to strap-type columns to facilitate the assembly of beams to the columns. Where the beams are to be fixed, a longer-than-normal strap 28 is fitted, a part 35 of the vertical arm of the hanger engaging the strap 28 between the angles 20 forming part of the column and there may be stepped portions 38 engaging the adjacent faces of the angles. A hook member 37 engages behind the upper edge of the strap 28. The bolt 44, being relieved of all shear stress can then be inserted through holes in the hanger and clip providing greaterthan-normal clearances. The hanger 33 has a braced platform 34 to accept beams bolted such as at 42, while the hanger 47 has a braced vertical flange 52, to which the web of a girder beam may be bolted by shear-loaded bolts 55.
