Abstract
915,290. Transistor amplifying circuits. PYE Ltd. Feb. 3, 1960 [Feb. 16, 1959], No. 5295/59. Class 40 (6). [Also in Group XXXVI] The current through a transistor V 1 is stabilized against temperature variations by means of a thermistor R 2 having a negative temperature coefficient connected to control the bias of transistor V 1 and in thermal contact with it, so that a rise in temperature alters the value of the resistor R 2 and thus adjusts the bias. By directly connecting the base of transistor V 2 to the emitter of V 1 the current through the power transistor V 2 is also stabilized. A potentiometer comprising resistor R 1 and thermistor R 2 is connected across the supply and provides the bias to transistor V 1 , so that on an increase of ambient or junction temperatures the resistance of R 2 decreases, the alteration of the bias due to the change in R 2 reducing the increase in emitter current. The thermistor may be mounted in direct contact with a metal clamp, Fig. 2 (not shown), holding the transistor in position on a heat-insulating base in order to provide good thermal contact.
