Abstract

Dihydroquinacridones are made by heating 2,5-diarylamino-3,6-dihydroterephthalic acid dialkyl esters, under pressure, with 60-100% hydrofluoric acid at a temperature between 120 DEG and 180 DEG C. In examples, there are obtained (1) 9,10-dihydroquinacridone from 2,5-dianilido-3,6-dihydroterephthalic acid diethyl ester; (2) 2,6-dimethyl-9,10-dihydroquinacridone from 2,5-di(p-toluidino)-3,6-dihydroterephthalic acid diethyl ester; (3) 2,6-dichloro-9,10-dihydroquinacridone from 2,5-di-(p-chloranilido)-3,6-dihydroterephthalic acid diethyl ester; (4) 2,6-dimethoxy-9,10-dihydroquinacridone from 2,5-di-(p-anisidino)-3,6-dihydroterephthalic acid diethyl ester.
