[Also in Group XXIX] A manually-actuated mixing valve 15, Fig. 1, mixes hot flow fluid, e.g. from boiler 10 to heater 12 with cooler return fluid, e.g. from radiators 11, and comprises a rotary valve member having a control flange 35, Fig. 2, having a cut-away area of such a shape that the temperature of the mixture, e.g. flowing to the radiator, is substantially directly proportional to the angular disposition of the rotary valve. The hot flow and cooler return water may be proportioned between the two outlets 22, leading to the radiators 24 returning to the boiler, by four flanges, although only one is shown controlling the hot flow to outlet 22. The shape of the cut-away portion is determined by a formula based on various characteristics of the hot water flow-heating system and gives a theoretical shape of the cut-away for exact linearity between mixture temperature and angular rotation of the valve as indicated by the dotted curve i, Fig. 9. In order to obtain a smaller valve member, the curve W is used to give an approximately linear relationship. According to the description the cut-away may be concave, convex, triangular or a parallel-sided slot.
