Abstract

914,290. Current collectors for electric railways. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. Dec. 9, 1960 [Dec. 10, 1959], No. 42431/60. Class 104 (3). In a spring-borne cradle for a vehicle current collector in which the cradle is supported by a spring system located between the upper joint of the current collector and the cradle and permits resilient movement of the cradle both in the vertical and horizontal plane, the system comprises two resilient elements which are coupled together, a first resilient element permitting resilient movement of the cradle in a vertical plane and a second resilient element permitting movement in a horizontal plane, the first resilient element being fixed to a rotatable axle of the second resilient element. In the arrangement shown a collector 1 is fixed to a cradle 2 which in turn is supported by a spring system 6, 7, 8, 9 from a tube 5 connecting the upper joints 3 of the arms 4 of a pantograph structure. The cradle 2 is connected to a stirrup 7 rotatably supported between one end of a pair of levers 6 which at their other end are connected to a metal bar of rectangular cross-section supported in a rectangular bore of a rubber sleeve held in a bore of a tube 8a of rectangular cross-section. The tube 8a is supported by an axle of rectangular crosssection extending into the bore of rubber sleeve of-an element 9 of similar construction to element 8. The element 9 is held, by a set-screw 11, in a sleeve 10 welded to the tube 5. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the rubber sleeves are replaced by coil springs.
