Abstract

656,664. Current collectors for electric vehicles. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. June 1, 1948, No. 14739. [Class 104 (iii)] A base mounting for a trolley pole is attached to the roof of a vehicle by a resilient connection comprising one or more pairs of journals 3 secured on the underside of the trolley pole base 1 to receive one or more coupling members each consisting of a metal rod 6 surrounded by a sleeve or tube 9 of rubber or other resilient insulating material located between inner and outer metal tubes 8, 10, the ends of the rods 6 being mounted in apertures in a pair of parallel metal channels 5 secured to the roof of the vehicle. Fibre washers 12 are preferably interposed between the ends of the sleeve members and adjacent faces of the metal channels, and a metal reinforcing member 13 may be located in the channel, beneath the securing nuts 7 on the ends of the rods 6. Axial movement of the sleeves 9 relative to the journals 3 may be prevented by set-screws 11 which pass through the journals into holes or recesses in the metal tubes 10. A rain-shield 21 may be provided. In a modification the journals are secured to the roof of the vehicle, and the channels supporting the coupling-rods are mounted on the underside of the trolley-base, while in a further modification each coupling member is mounted in a pair of end journals secured to the underside of the trolley base and an intermediate pair mounted on the vehicle.
