Abstract
673,013. Laminated torsion springs. SALTER & CO., Ltd., G. Feb. 19, 1951 [Nov. 24, 1949; May 31, 1950], Nos. 30118/49 and 13549/50. Class 108(iii) A laminated torsion bar 1 fitted and secured within and surrounded by an encircling external and fixed supporting part 3 or socket at one end, or a point intermediate its ends, is also surrounded or enclosed by an encircling sleeve or tubular part 2, which with the bar 1 is secured to the part 3 so as to project from the part 3 over any desired length of the bar in order to determine its effective length. As shown, the sleeve 2 is split at diagonally opposed longitudinal edges to form a pair of half sleeves which are clamped to the bar 1 by bolts 5. The sleeve may be formed with a single split or may not be split in which case it may be secured to the bar 1 in any suitable manner. The sleeve 2 may be replaced by a sleeve of different length in order to alter the effective length of the bar 1. According to the second Provisional Specification the sleeve may be secured to the bar 1 by wedges. Also, the sleeve 2 may be located on the bar 1 at a position remote from the part 3.
