Abstract
914,140. Tubular heat-exchange elements. HUET, A. April 28, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 15031/60. Class 64 (3). [Also in Group XXII] A heat-exchanger tube of metal or ceramic has discrete raised or hollowed portions, e.g. of a height or depth of one-tenth of a millimetre to one millimetre, disposed irregularly over its surface. There may be dimples and grooves, or grooves c alone, Fig. 1. There may be dimples h alone, Fig. 2, which are grouped in greater density at the inlet end of the tube or which vary in depth. The dimples or grooves may be produced by roughened rollers or the dimples produced by sand on the rollers. If the tube is produced by extrusion or drawing, grooves may be produced by oscillating combs. Transverse grooves may be produced by die-forming or hammering. The tubes may have fins and these can be tangential or diametral. In a heat-exchanger the tubes may be arranged so that the passages between them vary in section and direction, the tubes having double-convex sections with faces of unequal curvature and being staggered. Undulated walls may be disposed between the tube rows, or sheaths, corrugated symmetrically or otherwise, may be arranged coaxially of the tubes, variations in corrugation pitch corresponding to variations in the raised or hollowed portions on the tube surface.
