Abstract

904,140. Heat-exchange elements. PARSON & CO. Ltd., C. A. March 23, 1960 [Feb. 13, 1959], No. 5034/59. Class 64 (3). [Also in Group XL (a)] In a heat transfer arrangement comprising fins or corrugations 1 forming flow channels and set at an angle to the main direction (X) of fluid flow over a heat transfer surface and wherein baffles 2 are provided to redirect fluid flowing in said channels into like channels downstream of the first channels, part of the fluid flowing over the tips of the fins or corrugations is impeded at intervals by other baffles or deflectors extending at an angle to the main direction of fluid flow over the surface. These latter baffles may, as shown, comprise outward extensions of certain fins or corrugations la or they may comprise elements bridging adjacent baffles 2, each in alignment with a fin 1. Although shown as applied to a tubular heat-exchanger or nuclear fuel element of the kind described in Specification 847,214, the invention is said to be applicable to non-tubular elements such as in plate-type heat-exchangers.
