Abstract

913,073. Vehicle windows regulators. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. (Ford Motor Co.). March 25, 1959, No. 10307/59. Class 20 (3). In a regulator which imparts a compound movement to a vertically sliding car window to avoid car body obstruction for storing the window in the body space, the window 11, Fig. 1, is guided by rear rollers 26 in a rear body track 22 during the upper portion of the window movement only and by front rollers 18 in the front track 17 only during the lower portion of the travel. To this end the upper portion of the track 17 is flared so as to have no longitudinal restraint on the roller 18, the tracks 17, 22 overlapping in the vertical travel of the window so that during raising movement the roller 26 enters the track 22 through the flared lower end 27 prior to departure of the roller 18 from the longitudinal restraining portion 19 of the track 17. The track 22 is adjustably mounted on a body plate 24, Fig. 3. The regulator mechanism comprises an arm 36, Fig. 1, secured to a quadrant 33 pivoted at 34 to the body bracket 31 and carries a roller 37 in a slot 16 in the window frame 13 and a second L-shaped arm 38 pivoted at 39 to the arm 36 coupled to the frame 13 by a roller-and-slot guide 41, 14 and guided in a body track 43 by a roller 42. The arm 36 is actuated by the toothed quadrant 33 engaging the manually operated pinion 32. Lateral stability for the window is provided by an antifriction nylon button 49, Fig. 4, and the roller 18 engaging opposite sides of the track 17. Such stability may be increased by a strut 52, Fig. 2, pivoted between the window frame at 53 and a roller 54 in the track 17.
