Abstract
5-Phenyl-2-methylimino-4-oxazolidinone is prepared by the reaction of 5-phenyl-2-imino-4-oxazolidinone with a methylating agent, e.g. dimethyl sulphate, methyl iodide, methyl bromide or methyl p-toluenesulphonate, in the presence of an acid acceptor. In the specific example dimethyl sulphate is used in sodium methoxide/methanol.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions in unit dosage form having a stimulant effect on the mammalian central nervous sytem comprise a carrier and 5 - phenyl - 2 - methylimino - 4-oxazolidinone which in one tautomeric form has the structure <FORM:0912977/VI/1> or an acid addition salt thereof. The compositions may be in forms suitable for oral, rectal and parenteral administration e.g. a tablet, dragee, capsule, drops, emulsions, suspension, syrup, candy, chewing gum or suppository. Unit dosage forms may comprise between about 1 and 100 m.g. of the active compound.
