Abstract

1-Phenyl-pentanol-(1) may be prepared by reacting benzaldehyde with n-butyl-magnesium bromide or by reacting valeraldehyde with phenyl - magnesium bromide. Specification 800,667 is referred to.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions having cholepoetic activity comprise a carrier and 1-phenylpentanol (1). They may be in solid and liquid unit dosage forms suitable for oral, parenteral or rectal administration, e.g. containing from 50 to 900 mg. (preferably from 50 to 300 mg.) of the active compound and may comprise other physiologically active ingredients, those mentioned being spasmolytics, e.g. atropine, papaverine and dimethyl-n-octyl-(b -benzilic acid ethyl ester)-ammonium bromide and vitamins in particular nicotinamide and aneurin mono-nitrate. The preferred pharmaceutical form is a gelatine capsule. Specification 800,667 is referred to.
