Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions having hypotensive activity comprise, as active ingredient, at least one 2-benzylaminoimidazoline-(2) derivative of the general formula: wherein R, is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, R 2 is hydrogen, a halogen, trifluoromethyl or C 1-4 alkyl, and Hal is a halogen, or a non-toxic acid addition salt thereof, in association with a pharmaceutical carrier or excipient. The compositions may also contain other physiologically active ingredients, such as another hypotensive agent (e.g. guanethidine or a benzothiadiazine) and/or a spasmolytic agent. They may be presented in the form of tablets, capsules, suppositories, solutions or powders, which may contain any conventional auxiliary agents, carriers, disintegrating agents or lubricants. Dosage units for oral administration conveniently contain from 0.1 to 100 mg., preferably 1 to 30 mg., of active ingredient.
