Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions having appetite reducing properties and a hypotensive action comprising as active ingredient a 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline of the general formula <FORM:0943071/A5-A6/1> where R is hydrogen or a alkyl group, or a non-toxic acid addition salt thereof, in association with (a) one or more solid pharmaceutical carriers or excipients; (b) an aqueous or oily carrier or excipient containing one or more flavouring agents, sweetening agents, wetting agents, suspending agents, thickening agents and/or preservatives. R is preferably methyl, ethyl or propyl and the salts may be the phosphate, hydrochloride, sulphate, tartrate or lactate. The compositions may contain 0.2 to 95% of the active ingredient, a dosage unit containing 10-150 mg. of active ingredient. The pharmaceutical preparations may be in the form of tablets, pills, capsules, dragees, suppositories and aqueous or oily suspensions or solutions for oral use. Other drugs may be present.
