Abstract
A compound of the formula <FORM:1080859/C2/1> and alkali metal salts thereof and preparation thereof by reacting 5-ethyl-5-bromobarbituric acid with 6-mercaptopurine in an anhydrous alcohol, e.g. ethanol, in the presence of a mild base such as sodium acetate. Pharmaceutical compositions suitable for enteral, parenteral or rectal administration and which have antipyretic and anticonvulsant activity comprise the above compound or an alkali metal salt thereof in association with a liquid or solid pharmaceutical carrier.
