Abstract

912,784. Cutting-apparatus. CHAMBON Ltd. Sept. 28, 1961 [May 31, 1961], No. 34871/61. Class 31 (1). Cutting apparatus comprises sets of cutting blocks 15 detachably mounted on a pair of endless chains 2, 3, the blocks being movable between a pair of cylinders 17, 18, the cylinder 17 exerting a pressure on the knives 15c of the blocks as they move between the cylinders and the cylinder 18 exerting a counter-pressure on the blocks, and means for causing a web or sheet 25 to be cut to move over the cylinder 17. The upper reaches of the chains are guided on rails 13, 14 and the lower reaches are guided by pairs of rollers 16, 16a. The chains pass over sprockets 4, 5 mounted on shafts 6, 7, the shaft 6 being driven from the shaft 8 of the cylinder 17 so that the linear speed of the chains equals the peripheral speed of the cylinder. The shaft 19 of cylinder 18 is driven by the shaft 8 so that the peripheral speed of cylinder 18 equals that of cylinder 17. The shaft 19 is vertically adjustable, e.g. by mounting its ends in eccentric bearings 23, 24. The web &c. 25 is fed by a pair of cylinders 26, 27 at a linear speed lower than the linear speed of the blocks 15. Pairs of web-pulling cylinders 28, 29, 30, 31 are driven from the shaft 8 at a peripheral speed equal to the linear speed of the blocks 15. The web is held and released at appropriate times, e.g. by means of pivotally-mounted clamps 34 operable by cams 37, 38 mounted on a shaft 39.
