Abstract

1,220,583. Cutting-out apparatus. SAMCO-STRONG Ltd. 24 April, 1968 [25 April, 1967], No. 18906/67. Heading B4B. [Also in Division B8] A web-feeding arrangement, suitable for use in a machine where a press knife is placed on or underneath the web, and the web and knife are moved together between the platens of a press to effect cutting, comprises a work-table 18 and a conveyer assembly 22 movable together towards and away from the press, and means movable with the work-table, for supporting a supply of material R, the conveyer assembly being operable independently of the movement of the work-table 18 to feed the material to the work-table. As shown, a number of Y-shaped supports 52 for the shafts 54 of rolls of material R are fixed to the frame 24 of the conveyer assembly, the frame 24 being supported by rollers 28 and connected to the table 18 by a link 26. A number of side-by-side belts 32 are provided in the conveyer assembly 22 and pass over pulleys 40 driven from a motor 34 mounted on the frame 24. Initially, the operator actuates a switch of the motor 34 to cause the belts 32 to feed a length of material on to the table 18, the operator at the same time pulling on the front end of the web or webs. The press knife is now placed on the material above the table, and another switch is actuated by the operator to effect a cycle of the machine, involving moving the table 18 between the press platens, operating the platens to effect cutting and returning the table to its initial position. If the press knife is not large enough to effect cutting across the whole of the web width, the knife is repositioned on the material and the operation is repeated. When cutting out across the full width of the web has been effected the operator removes waste material from the table when the table is in its initial position, and then feeds a new length of material on to the table and places the knife thereon as described above. Movement of the table 18 during a machine cycle is effected by an hydraulic motor operating a chain 20 attached to the table.
