Abstract

1,151,077. Slitting fabrics. ALAMAC KNITTING MILLS Inc. 4 Oct., 1966 [12 Oct., 1965], No. 44353/66. Heading D1S. Apparatus for splitting tubular knitted fabric 10 comprises a cutting tool 11, e.g. a rotary knife, for splitting the fabric 10, conveyor belts 12a, 12b for feeding a single thickness of the fabric 10 to the tool 11 and so disposed as to lie within the fabric tube 10 as it is fed to the tool 11, means disposed behind the tool 11 to support the belts 12a, 12b, and means 29a, 29b adjacent both sides of the tool 11 to grasp the split edges of the fabric 10 after it has been split and for drawing the fabric past the tool 11. The rotary knife 11, the V-belts 12a, 12b and a brush roller 24 are mounted on a frame 15 supported on the machine by brackets 19a, 19b. The belts 12a, 12b pass around pulleys 13, 14 having dual grooves and at least one of which is driven. An idler 20 supports the belts 12a, 12b and is movable to adjust the tension of the belts either by pivoting arms 21a, 21b about a bolt 22 or by moving the bolt 22 along a slot 23. A fan 25 blows air into the fabric tube 10 to balloon it during its feed to the knife 11. After the fabric is split it passes around guides 26a, (26b), Fig. 2 (not shown), and the split edges are picked up by pins 37 as the fabric is caught between pin plates 27a, 27b and rotary brushes 28a, (28b), Fig. 3 (not shown). The pin plates 27a, 27b are mounted on driven chains 29a, 29b which diverge to the width of the split fabric, Fig. 2 (not shown).
