Abstract

912,402. Heating liquids by electricity. HOMESTEAD VALVE MANUFACTURING CO. June 11, 1959 [Dec. 12, 1958], No. 20106/59. Class 39 (3). [Also in Groups XXIII and XXIX] In apparatus for generating a stream of vapour and liquid spray at the boiling-point of the liquid a pump 24 driven by an electric motor 52 draws a liquid from a tank 7 through a conduit 23, and pumps it through a conduit 27 and coils 32, 34, 36 containing electric heating elements 54, 55, 56, and thence through a conduit 37 and a hose 38 to a discharge gun 40, and a thermostat 39 is provided to de-energize the electric heaters should the temperature of the liquid flowing through the coil 36 exceed a certain value, and also to energize the heaters when the liquid temperature falls below a certain value. When the apparatus is to be used for cleaning purposes the liquid may be a detergent or soap solution supplied to the tank 7 in concentrated form from a reservoir 11. In the event of overheating of the fluid in the conduit 37 a fusible plug 44 is melted to allow the fluid to escape to the atmosphere.
