895,848. Electric water heaters. KERR, J. S. L. Aug. 29, 1958 [Aug. 30, 1957; Nov. 12 1957; March 27, 1958], Nos. 27389/57, 35230/57 and 9863/58. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XIII] Apparatus for heating a liquid in a container 7 by injecting steam (see Group XIII) comprises a reservoir tank 2 heated by an immersion heater 16 under control of a thermostat which may be mounted on the steam discharge nozzle 5 and supplying heated water through a valve 15 to a quick-boil tank 12 containing immersion heaters 16 which convert the water to steam and are energized when the nozzle 5 is depressed into the discharge position. The heaters 16 may be turned off by a float-operated switch if the level in the reservoir falls below a certain point. The heating cycle may be controlled by a timer 18, and a light may indicate when the device is in operation. In an alternative embodiment the nozzle 5 slides vertically into the container 7 under magnetic control.
