Abstract

938,195. Electric water heaters. O. EBERLE, and H. KOHLER, [trading as EBERLE & KOHLER KOMM. - GES.]. Jan. 30, 1962 [March 14, 1961], No. 3426/62. Class 39 (3). An electric water boiler includes a water chamber communicating with a smaller, auxiliary chamber by a restricted opening, a heating element for heating the water in the water chamber and auxiliary chamber, and a device for sensing the temperature of a wall bordering the auxiliary chamber, whereby to interrupt the current supply when the sensed temperature rises a predetermined amount above boiling point due to the expulsion of the water from the auxiliary chamber by the bubbles developed when the water boils. Temperature sensitive switch 2, Fig. 1, interrupts the current supply to heater 4 when the temperature in the auxiliary chamber rises to e.g. 110‹ C. as a consequence of the water boiling. Small opening 5a, and slot 5b, permit the expulsion of the water, and avoid the trapping of air when filling the container. The heater 4 may be mounted in the water chamber itself, Fig. 3, and extend into the auxiliary chamber formed by the removable member 5, in which a thermally conductive member 6 enhances the conduction to the switch 2.
