Abstract

1,027,253. Automatic temperature control. ELEKTROWARME SORNEWITZ VEB. Aug.27, 1964, No. 35147/64. Heading G3R. An electrical water heating and boiling appararatus comprises an electric heating element 5 and in series therewith an adjustable temperature regulator 6 of known type and a magnetically operated temperature regulator 8 which latter regulator includes a magnet 9 associated with the regulator 8 which co-operates with a magnet 10 carried by a freely moving float 11 inside the storage tank 2 of the apparatus. With a setting on the regulator 6 below boiling the regulator 8 remains closed and the regulator 6 cycles to maintain the water at the set temperature. When it is desired to boil the water the regulator 6 is set to a temperature above the water boiling point. When the water boils the subsequent agitation and depression of the water surface causes the float to drop whereupon the magnet 9 is released from the magnet 10 to open the contacts of the regulator 8 and de-energize the heating element 5. To cause the contacts of the regulator 8 to re-close it is necessary to admit more water to the tank 2 to raise the water level therein. The falling of the float 11 upon boiling of the water prevents the apparatus from boiling dry. The movement of the float 11 is constrained by a frusto-conical cage 12 in the tank. When the water level in the tank 2 is normal the float 11 is arranged to be submerged below its normal floatation level.
