Abstract

122,288. Sanders, H. C. Feb. 11, 1918. Heating by electricity.-The passages through which the liquid flows within the heater are of such dimensions that the leakage of current back to the supply pipe is reduced to a minimum, means being provided for reducing the potential of the liquid to zero. The heater consists of a porcelain &c. body made in three portions held together by a bolt D. The supply pipe G enters a chamber in the top of the heater from which two diverging passages H<1> lead to horizontal passages H<2> in the bottom of the heater. The passages H<2> communicate with two vertical passages H<3> containing the heating coils J and leading to the nozzle H<4>. With a current at 200 volts, the total length of the passages within the heater from the pipe G to the coils J is 9 inches, the diameter of the passages being # of an inch. The upper ends of the vertical passages are covered by a piece of wire gauze F connected by a wire to the pipe G which is earthed. The handle of the water valve is connected by a link G<2> to the switch. In a modification, the water enters at the bottom of the heater. The heater may be used in conjunction with a tank and circulating water system.
