Abstract

152,012. Colebrook, W. Oct. 7, 1919, [Convention date]. Heating by electricity.-An apparatus for heating water in a continuous stream by electricity, comprises two concentric sheet - metal cylinders A, B connected at the top by a flange D and at the bottom by an inlet union G, the waterway being formed by a wire C, which may be of galvanized copper spirally wound on the cylinder B, and the water leaving by an outlet E. Heating-elements comprise resistance wires wound on a sheet-metal, poreclain, glass, or earthenware cylinder filled with plaster of paris or earthenware to hold the supply leads in position, and fitted into the cylinder B, and resistance wires J coiled on the outer cylinder A, connexions L being provided to prevent magnetic and induction fields. The connexions Land the supply leads to the heating elements are led to terminals O. The cylinders are insulated by a coating of enamel I and the outer cylinder A and heating-element J are covered with asbestos. The union G is connected to a valve fitted on a water supply pipe so that a continuous stream of hot water may be supplied. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises the electric heater shown in Fig. 1 (Cancelled), in which the heat insulation g is covered by an additional cylinder h, and the internal cylinder a is fitted with heat insulation b. A bottom cover e<1> fitted to the cylinder e is supported from the detachable cap m by a central bolt n. Any other means of causing a thin stream of water to travel in a continuous spiral path, for example, a thin spiral tube, may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
