911,783. Screwing-machines; rolling screwthreads. WILLIAMS, C. I. Sept. 13, 1960 [June 6, 1960], No. 31472/60. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). A portable screwing-machine comprises a frame formed by angle-bars 10, 11 and plates 12, 13, an electric motor 15 with a built-in gearbox 16, which is coupled to a screwing die 18, a slide 21 carried by guides 19, 20, and a workholder 25 on the slide. The work-holder 25 is in the form of a V-block, and the work 26 is held in the latter by a screw 27, and a clamp 35, the block being adjustable laterally by screws 31, 32 and vertically by shims applied between the block and slide. A lever 37 is carried by the slide, and movement of the work and slide towards the die is produced by engaging one end of the lever with an adjustable screw 40 in the plate 12, and pivoting the lever about a bolt 38. An adjustable stop 42 is secured to the slide so that as a nut 43 on the stop engages plate 12 during feeding of the work the die opens to release the work and the slide is retracted manually, and the die is then reset by operating a brake 46 by a lever 45. A guage 37a controls the maximum diameter of workpiece allowable for screwing, and a carrying handle 47 is provided.
