Abstract

[Also in Group XXX] A set of sequentially operated switches 11a ... 11c forming part of a safety load moment cut-out in the circuits of the hoist and luffing motors of a jib crane, are closed by an hydraulic device sensitive to the hook load. The device comprises a piston 2, connected to the hook, which forces fluid into a cylinder 7 containing a plunger 6. The plunger carries a balance weight 8 which successively lifts weights 10a . . . 10c through which the upper end of the plunger freely passes. As each weight is lifted it closes its associated switch. The switches co-operate with further switches 12a ... 12d operated mechanically by the luffing motion of the crane and the arrangement is such that if the load is excessive at a given radius a circuit is completed through the appropriate pair of switches and relay 13 to open contacts 14, 45 in the motor circuits.
