Abstract

521,515. Safety-suspenison apparatus for lifts. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., KING, Ltd., G. W., and HALL, L. H. Nov. 19, 1938, No. 33676. [Class 78 (iii)] When the suspension rope A breaks, the auxiliary chain B takes up the strain and tends to raise the comparatively light balance weight b, which resists the action sufficiently to cause the chain sprocket D to be pulled downwards by compressing the springs J. This brings the teeth G of a ratchet wheel on the sprocket shaft into register with a fixed block M and so prevents further rotation of the chain wheel. In the depressed position a spring plunger N, Fig. 6, enters a slot P in the guides and prevents the chain wheel structure from rising again until positively released. The downward movement may operate a switch to cut out the hoisting motor at the same time.
