Preformed slabs or sleeves of heat insulating or exothermically reacting material for lining head boxes &c. have a layer of material which is highly reflective to heat, located within the slab or sleeve or as a backing thereto. The layer may be a layer of bright or polished metal such as stainless steel, tin, aluminium foil, or a plastic sheet containing finely divided particles of bright metal such as aluminium, or be formed in situ as by painting with aluminium paint. Specification 627,678 is referred to.
