Abstract

910,825. Swaging machines. GESELLSCHAFT FUR FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. April 1, 1959 [April 4, 1958], No. 11087/59. Class 83(4). A swaging machine has its radiallyacting hammers 1 driven by eccentric shafts 2 mounted eccentrically in rotatably adjustable housings 3 which are clamped in their adjusted position during the hammer blow. The eccentric shafts 2 carry flywheels 15 which are driven by a motor 10 through V- belts, gearing 11, 12, 13, 14 and slide blocks 17 engaging in radial grooves 16 of the flywheels 15. The housings 3 are rotated to vary the stroke position of the hammers, by gears 5 meshing with a central gear 6 actuated by a pinion 7 coupled to an external pinion 9 driven by an hydraulicallyoperated rack. Inserts 19, arranged on opposite sides of each hammer, carry clamping pistons 18, Fig. 3, supplied with pressure oil through a spring-biased control valve 20 actuated by a face cam 21, Fig. 4 (not shown), driven by one of the eccentric shafts 2. A spring-loaded check valve 33, Fig. 4 (not shown), maintains pressure in the hydraulic system whereby pressure pulses are transmitted to the clamping pistons 18 in timed relationship with the hammer blocks. Excess oil passes into a housing 36 and is used to lubricate the working parts. Recesses 37 are provided in the bearing surfaces of the swaging box 3 which receive the housings 3 opposite the clamping pistons to produce a wedge action and hence increase the clamping friction. Oil drain grooves 38 are also provided. These grooves may be on sheet metal bands, Figs. 12-14 (not shown). To further increase the friction wedge shaped annular ribs may be provided on the housing 3, Fig. 5 (not shown), to engage with complementary wedge grooves on the bearing surfaces of the box 3. Alternatively, a pair of friction rings connected respectively to the box 3 and to the housing may be interposed between these parts to provide three annular friction surfaces, Fig. 6 (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 10, the housing 3 which is rotatably adjustable by gear 5, has an inner sleeve 3a receiving the eccentric shaft 2 and to which clamping pressure is applied through rings 50 keyed to housing 3, by a stirrup 49, Fig. 11 (not shown), embracing half the circumference of the housing. This arrangement provides two annular friction surfaces for the adjustable housing 3.
