Abstract

910,496. Detecting flow in metal. BELLING & LEE Ltd. May 26, 1961, No. 19076/61. Class 37. In an arrangement for testing a weld 3, Fig. 1, between two plates 1, 2, alternating current from an oscillator 21, Fig. 2, is caused to flow across the weld by contact probes 4, 5, and changes of signal picked up by the coils 17, 18 of a detector head 14, as it traverses the weld are amplified, and applied to an indicator 29. The apparatus is constructed in two units, the probes and detector head being mounted on a sleeve 8, and the oscillator, amplifier and meter being enclosed in a single casing 28. The coils are connected in series aiding relationship, and the apparatus facilitates testing from one side of a plate.
