Abstract

910,193. Floating covers for tanks. GREENGATE & IRWELL RUBBER CO. Ltd., and MARSHALL, D. D. Oct. 7, 1960 [Dec. 4, 1959; Jan. 8, 1960; Jan. 12, 1960; Jan. 14, 1960; Feb. 2, 1960], Nos. 41198/59, 691/60, 1026/60, 1379/60 and 3582/60. Class 69 (1). A floating cover for a storage tank comprises a flexible membrane 7, Fig. 1, supported on the underside by buoyancy members 6 and surrounded by a ring 1 carrying a flexible seal 3 in engagement with the tank wall 2. The buoyancy members 6 may comprise flexible tubes arranged circumferentially, or radially, of the cover. The membrane 7 is clamped under the rigid support rings 1, 4 by plates 6a. In a modification, radial tubes 11, Fig. 3, are attached by clamps 12 to the underside of the membrane. In a modification the membrane comprises a pair of plies 7, Fig. 4, which are welded together along seams 15, the pockets being inflated or foam-filled to improve the buoyancy.
