Abstract
1385081 Air cushion vehicles GLOBAL MARINE Inc 29 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 14644/72 Heading B7K [Also in Division E1] In order to transport an offshore oil-drilling platform or similar apparatus over an expanse of ice, a detachable skirt 84, Fig. 10, may be attached to an annular plenum 85, Fig. 3 on the periphery of the platform, so that the latter may be supported by an air cushion. Pressurized air from blowers 21 is supplied via the plenum 85 to the interior of the skirt 84, which is doublewalled, the walls 90, 91 being held apart by webs 94, the inner wall 90 having an outlet 95 between each web 94. The skirt 84 is attached to the platform by clamping battens 100, apertured to co-operate with studs spaced around the platform, and secured by nuts.
