Abstract

1,177,363. Air cushion supported drilling platform. R. D. HAWKINS. 12 Dec., 1966 [29 Dec., 1965], No. 29747/69. Divided out of 1,177,362. Heading B7K. [Also in Division E1 A craft supported by an air cushion and moved to a location for use as a sea platform has retractable legs which are extended at the desired location to support the craft on the sea bed, the cushion thereafter being deflated. A deck 10 with structure 26, 28 and propulsion means 30 is provided with a flexible peripheral wall 20, Fig. 1, or 40, Fig. 7, releasably secured to deck 10. The structure carries a plurality of telescopic legs 80 each formed with a foot 98 to rest on the sea bed. In use a supporting cushion is formed in chamber 18 by pump 14 and the craft propelled by unit 30 to a desired location where the legs are lowered as indicated in Fig. 7, the cushion thereafter being exhausted through a valve 22 and the wall 20 removed.
