Abstract

545,927. Buoyant furniture. ELLIOT EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and HANN, K. G. Sept. 12, 1941, No. 11716. [Class 77] [Also in Group XIV] A collapsable chair is formed of a number of inflatable flexible tubes 1, 2, Fig. 1, cut at such angles and so joined together that when inflated the back tubes 2 form an angle with the seat tubes 1 and become self-supporting and also support the weight of the occupant. The opening in the seat and back is covered by fabric 3 to the edges of which the tubes are united. Triangular pieces of fabric 4, the edges 5 of which are reinforced, are connected to the tubes 1, 2. The angle of the back may be varied by buckles for adjusting the length of the members 4. Wooden or other supports may be detachably connected to the seat tubes 1 to raise them from the ground. Fig. 6 shows an arm chair having a seat formed by side tubes 9 united by parallel cross tubes 10, back tubes 11, and supporting tubes 13, 16, 17 joined to the seat tubes by tubes 1, 4, 15. Inflation in each case is effected through valves 6. The chairs are stated to be suitable for beach use or for use on board ship or in an aeroplane and may serve as life buoys.
