909,830. Carding-engines; cleaning machines. WINDISCH, L., REITERER, F., and NIFENECKER, J. Nov. 14, 1958 [Nov. 16, 1957; Nov. 8, 1958], No. 36802/58. Classes 120 (1) and 120 (3). Carding-apparatus includes a hollow perforated doffer to which suction may be applied, the outer wall 27 of the doffer containing a large number of small perforations and an inner wall 19 containing a smaller number of large perforations. The two walls 19, 27 may be connected by annular partitions that are adjustable in position and number. Within the doffer there may be both a suction duct 9 and a pressure duct 22, the latter being arranged to clean the surface of the doffer. A false bottom 24 in communication with the suction source may be provided to assist in cleaning beneath the swift and a blower opening 26 is arranged for cleaning upper parts of the machine. Regulation of the drawing-on to the doffer of the fibres may be effected by altering the suction-fan speed, or the doffer speed, or the distance between swift and doffer, or the distance between a detaching device and the doffer. The detaching device removing fibres from the doffer operates by a friction effect.
